Day five of our road trip to San Diego, stop 1. The night before when we were driving all around we saw Ed Walker's French Dipped Sandwiches and having heard of it before but never having tried it... I suggested we stop by this famous diner. Ed Walker's is the only drive in diner in Arkansas to offer beer service in your car while you eat. Right there you're ahead of the game. And they serve the local Diamond Beer, another point for Ed Walker's! We came for a late lunch, so they weren't too busy, but still had a nice stream of old ladies, families and couples coming through. Parking was easy, and we were served immediately. I ordered a hand-dipped chocolate shake, and the Catfish Sandwich, Sarah chose to get the World Famous Ed Walker's French Dip and a salad, and grandma opted for the sub sandwich with beef, ham, pickles, and pepper jack. The sandwiches were large, the sides of chips and fries were substantial, and my shake was thick and full of chocolaty awesome. The winner however was grandma's sub sandwich. Of all three, hers was the most unique and satisfying. The food was good, not great. The atmosphere, now that was GREAT. Service, quick and on point. Come again? Yup. It is easy to see why Ed Walker's has a recipe for success. They're famous for a reason, and all the autographed stuff on the walls is authentic for sure, not that store bought knackery you find on TGI Friday's walls. Tip: get a piece of pie. The owner's mother bakes the pies and cakes at home just for you!

We stopped here after an on line recommendation. The gravy was way too salty. The price was too high for the quanity and quality of the food. Waitress was nice though.

Why oh why didn't I follow my credo of always getting the thing the place is famous for? I'll get my meal out of the way first - I had the bacon burger. I was gratified to see that it was no pre-formed, frozen patty. But the bacon was measly and crunchy. The burger was small and I left unsatisfied. The onion rings were amazing though. I should have gotten the french dip as my husband did. The beef was tender and moist, the bread had good texture, and the au jus was real (not just salty water). We'll probably never be back to Fort Smith (we found it via Yelp on a road trip!) but if we do I know what I'm ordering! :)

Absolutely love this place! I have been coming here for two years and have never been disappointed. Miss. Ashley and the rest of the staff are always very friendly and efficient. They have my sweet tea ready for me before I even come in. The food is awesome, but it is really the atmosphere that makes this place.

There are a handful of places I genuinely miss from my days of living in Fort Smith. Ed Waker's Drive In is one of them. I think the atmosphere here is fun - it's comforting and I don't think it's changed in forever. They make on heck of a french dip and the fried pickles are the best. My daughter loves riding the mechanical razorback. The servers are always really friendly and the sweet tea is always just right. This place is exactly what a southern diner should be all about. I always make a point to stop in for a bite when I'm town for a visit.

Great little burger joint in Fort Smith. Wife got the "world famous" French dip and I the jumbo cheeseburger. She says hers was very good, although she might have possibly had too high of expectations. My cheeseburger was absolutely delicious and the cheese fries were great too, although the nacho cheese they use is a tad spicy.

We drive by Ed Walkers on a regular basis. It doesn't look like much, but is typically crowded. My wife and I decided to give it a try. I ordered the steak sandwich. I was hoping for something like the one at De Rancho's in Tahlequah, but I got this large, thin, and extremely greasy, processed meat steak sandwich. It was terrible. My wife loves a good hamburger, but wanted something light or small, so she ordered the child's hamburger. She orders all her burgers plain, nothing but meat and bread. When she looked at the meat, you could tell it was a frozen processed hamburger patty. It was terrible too. I know the local's love the place, but we spent over $20 for terrible food and will never eat there again. On a positive note the waitress was friendly and helpful. We left her a good tip.

The French Dip sandwich was good as always, spice cake was to die for, very delicious. The only place in the state of Arkansas where you can get a beer brought out to your car at curb service. Root Beer in a frosted mug in nice too!

I'll forgive the kitchy '50s decor and the awful, sugary onion ring because the French dip sandwich with Swiss on sourdough was so damn good.

French Dip with crinkle fries. Dang tasty.

The last two trips we had the patty melt on marbled rye.....it was awesome as was the fries and onion rings.Nice friendly service and reasonable prices.

Best burger in town! The Hot Mama burger that I had has jalapenos and blue cheese sauce called roqueford sauce. At first I thought blue cheese in hamburger? I like blue cheese in my salad but hamburger? I decided to try it anyway and it was soooo good!!! My brother had some kind of burger with barbeque sauce and onions. It was just as good. French dip sandwich was also amazing too. So far everything I tried here is good.

My rule of thumb when on the road is to try to eat somewhere I couldn't find back home in Tulsa, and when I asked the desk clerk where that might be in Ft. Smith, "Ed Walker's" was out of his mouth before I finished the question. Ft. Smith is not the most scenic of places, and the neighborhood where the place is situated is not attractive, but the food is great! A few drive-up stalls are on hand, but we sat down inside, right beside a gorgeous Italian cream cake under a glass dome. All the baked goods looked fantastic---the no bake cookies by the front register were the largest specimens I've ever seen, glossy and inviting, but since I was already clutching a Styrofoam container with a huge slice of the aforementioned cake, I passed on the cookies (and the equally inviting red velvet cupcakes). To get down to business, I ordered the "famous" French dip sandwich. The guy who seated us said it was his favorite, that the beef was spiced really well. I also ordered onion rings. My husband had the pastrami on rye with sauerkraut and mustard along with fries and a Bud Light. The French dip was as good as the host promised. Sometimes this sandwich can be bland, but the beef was seasoned just right and the au just that accompanied it was hearty. The onion rings were good; I couldn't tell if they were made in house, because they were pretty neatly battered, but they were tasty. My husband said I out-ordered him; his sandwich had a bit too much mustard for his taste and the fries were thick cut and pedestrian. We saved the cake for later, and I loved it! The cream cheese frosting was thick and rich, the fluffy filling between layers was light, and the cake itself could have stood alone with honor. This place is worth checking out!

Not bad, nothing special. Drive-in probably gives people a better experience since it has more of a vintage feel, but the food is nothing more than average.

My first diner experience! (I think) Overall: Pleasant. My friend and I decided to try Ed Walker's one evening. I do believe that our waitress/waitresses forgot about us after being told to seat ourselves but its alright, there were people packed in almost every area of the little red diner. I got a sample platter of starters: Fried pickle chips, texas toothpicks, and jalepeno poppers. My favorite were the fried pickles.

My husband and i went here yesterday for lunch. The service was very prompt and friendly. I had the large chef salad and an iced tea. The salad was huge so i had to put it in a to go box. My husband had the french dip, which they are famous for, and the curly fries. He couldn't finish the fries. There was really great oldies music playing in the background.

food was aitte! Cool history and a great OG drive in!!! Serve beer to the car!!!! AR Rules!
(4)James S.
Had the French Dip, fries and onion rings. All of it was great. There were lots of homemade pies which I resisted but looked good. Overall great experience if you like the 50's dinners. They even bring beer to your car if you get curb service.

Awesome place! We stopped here by chance last night and it was wonderful. The people who work here are really nice and the food was delicious. Of course we wanted to try their world famous dip and it did not disappoint. Their sandwiches come with friends, but the portions are so big that it is impossible to eat it all in one meal. Over all, great place. Quite a hidden treasure in Fort Smith where most other places looked like their were either shut down or in the process of shutting down.

This place was ok. The service is ok. Wasn't exactly fawning all over you, but we had a 7 people group so I guess its alright. I ordered the giant hamburger, only to impress the group. (Mistake.) It is big. The meat was ok, but the bread really sucked. All dried out and probably stays on the shelf until the sight of mold appears. Fries and everything else is standard burger joint. I mean its Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Maybe I should've road the mechanical razorback. 5 stars Melanie? Really?
(3)Chris R.
Friendly service, nifty environment, good food. Vegetarian options. Their Roquefort dressing is addictive. If you don't feel like going in, just drive up and flash your lights. Yes, you can even have your beer delivered to your car. Some items are not posted on outdoor menu so ask your server if you have questions. Worth a try.

Read the other reviews and was concerned. What the hell for I'll never understand. I had a French dip and it was delicious. It was about $8 and was full of meat. I kept reading reviews about small entrees versus the price. Not true. The pies are made fresh and are delicious. Will be back again.

I struggled between a two and a three. I had the 1/3 pound Razorback (bacon cheese burger) with tater tots instead of fries. I asked for the tots to be cooked crispy and they absolutely nailed that but it went downhill from there. The burger looked small for a 1/3 pound burger but then I noticed that the patty was thick. When I bit into it the patty lacked flavor. It reminded me of one of my first attempts of making a burger. I did not use any spice and this burger didn't either. If it did it wasn't nearly enough. The bacon was thick cut and the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, but it didn't help the lackluster patty. The staff was very friendly and along with the tots pulled my review up a star. It wasn't worth the $11 plus dollars I spent. I cannot see myself returning.

Stopped at Eds on our way to Nashville because of Yelp recommendation. Don't be fooled by the size of the building, it is twice as big as it appears. Friendly staff. Clean but small bathrooms. Parking across the road was adequate. Iced tea - tasty. Chili cheese fries - perfect - no canned cheese here. Bison burger - A+. French Dip - probably the best I've ever had and no salt-laden au ju. Just a great compliment. Asked my wife what could they improve on. Nothing. Everything exceeded expectations. Looking for more reasons to get back to Fort Smith just to eat there again.

Stopped here during a roadtrip for dinner because of the positive Yelp reviews.... The diner is cute and has a very old-timey feel. Our waitress was nice. I got the "famous" French dip. It was okay... Probably would've been better with cheese and the portion was smaller than I expected it to be. Onion rings were okay too (FYI - gotta pay extra for them). Everything was edible, but I wasn't absolutely BLOWN AWAY. I guess these Yelp reviews got my hopes up. The desserts also looked good, but who knows how long they had been sitting out, so we passed....

First of all, let me start by saying that I've always been a fan of Ed Walker's Drive In. My wife and I have eaten there several times over the years. Each year we get a card from them on our anniversary. However, this latest trip will be our last. I ordered a chicken sandwich and fries. My wife ordered a hamburger and fries. My fries needed a hazmat team to keep people back so they wouldn't get burned from the heat coming off of them. My wife's fries needed the same hazmat team to keep people from getting freezer burn. My chicken was hot and crisp. My wife picked up her hamburger and the bottom bun was soggy. Let me clarify, she could have rung out that bun like a dirty dish towel. There was more fluid in that bun then in my glass of Coke. You couldn't pick up the bun, it just kept falling apart. Obviously, her whole plate had been sitting for quite a while. Speaking of Coke. Mine was cool and refreshing. My wife's had a glob of gray matter the size of a thimble floating in it. It looked like the gunk you dig out of the bottom of your dishwasher after running it for a few years. Although it could have just as easily been a giant booger. We weren't hanging around to find out. It's a shame. We always like that place. Oh well, there are other places to eat.

While visiting a remote village near the Cambodia/Vietnam border I struck up a conversation with a local farmer. He, of course, was curious where I was from. When I told him he asked me if I had ever eaten at Ed Walker's and tried the French Dip. I hadn't but was surprised he was knowledgeable about it. He said, "why are you so surprised? It's world famous!" Well, after that I felt very embarrassed about the ignorance I displayed about local culinary opportunities and decided to try it out. I ordered the French dip. My conclusion is don't expect to get good diner advice from a half naked farmer who eats fish heads and rice.

First time to try so you gotta check out the French dip. It is like stepping back into the forties. Roast beef like your Granny's! Wonderful! But, if you want 5 stars you gotta cut your own fries.
(4)Adrian D.
Worth the hype! The French dip was amazing. The roast beef alone was tasty and paired with the au jous was a taste explosion. The chicken dumplings were also very good.
(4)Lyndsey R.
Been going here my whole life and i have never had bad service or food. The burgers are to die for! I usually get the hotmama. Try the fried shrooms!!

We were on the road from Tulsa to Raleigh, and had set out to find "the" local spot for lunch as we passed through Fort Smith. Yelp did us right in leading us to Ed Walker's, for sure. In the name of not making you read a long-winded version of what everybody else who reviewed this little jewel of a place has already covered, here's the Reader's Digest version: - Get the French Dip. It's GOOD. (The au jus alone is worth getting it for - it's delicious and flavorful where many of its brethren lack.) There is a reason the place is "famous" for it, and while the other stuff here is good, too, you may regret skipping the Dip - I know The Mister did! He opted for the Patty Melt, which wasn't bad, but was a little lacking in the size-of-the-meat department.) (That sounded bad. Sorry.) - Onion rings. Get them. - You get a frosty mug for your root beer as well as your regular beer. This is a big plus, IMO. - The jalapeno buttons are a good appetizer pick if you're pitching your diet for the day - they're spicy and nicely offset by cool ranch on the side. (You may suffer afterwards... but at least it's for a good cause... right?) - If you sit outside, bring your pup along. The server who took care of us was super-sweet, provided water, and gave our little Lola some love. :-) We were too stuffed for dessert... but those all looked stellar.

Small portions for price but I love the drive in. It's not a place we go to regularly but I do recommend it.

I looked on yelp for a new little place and saw Ed Walkers diner pop up. I decided it would be different to try. When I came in it is a nice older joint, but it is a bit small. I ordered a French dip and had onion rings with it. The meat on the French dip was just amazing and tender! The Swiss cheese was good too. The onion rings were great also. I tried half of my mother's hamburger and it was pretty good, but small. The service was good, but it is pretty cramped in there. Other than that this is a relatively good place to eat. Especially when you get curb service.
